Pay

Severance Pay

A lump severance of so many weeks of pay.

How this number is made

Severance written as weeks of pay is that weekly amount times the weeks. Some packages add benefits continuation or a bonus. Those are not in the weekly pay unless you fold them in. Tax withholding on a lump sum can be higher than a normal check and is not estimated here.

  1. Weekly pay is the gross the agreement uses, not take-home.
  2. Weeks are the weeks the offer actually names.

Formula

Severance = weekly pay × weeks.

Worked example

With the figures already in the form, gross severance is $14,400.

Questions

Should I divide my salary by 52?

Only if the agreement defines a week that way. Some use a pay period instead.

Does signing change the number?

The amount is whatever the release says. This page cannot see the release.
