How this number is made
Double time is twice the hourly rate. This page adds those hours to ordinary straight-time hours. It is not the overtime page, which uses one-and-a-half. A contract can define double time for Sundays or holidays and still pay something else for weekly overtime.
- Put only the hours paid at 2× in the double-time box.
- Hours already included in straight time should not be typed again.
Formula
Pay = rate × straight hours + rate × 2 × double-time hours.
Worked example
With the figures already in the form, gross pay is $1,344.00.
Questions
Does the law require double time?
Not as a general federal rule. Time-and-a-half over 40 hours in a week is the usual federal overtime rule. Double time is usually a contract, a state rule, or a holiday policy.
What about a shift premium?
Not included. Add it into the rate only if it is paid on these hours.
