How this number is made
An hourly rate from a salary is the salary divided by the hours you work. Using 2,080 hours assumes 40 hours for 52 weeks. Unpaid leave means fewer weeks.
- Weeks should be weeks you are paid, not weeks you wish you worked.
- Hours are straight-time hours, not a hope that includes overtime.
Formula
Hourly = salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks).
Worked example
With the figures already in the form, equivalent hourly rate is $36.06.
Questions
Why not divide by 2,080?
That is 40 × 52. Use it only if you really work that. The hourly-to-salary page goes the other direction.
Does this include benefits?
No. Benefits make the job worth more than the hourly cash rate. They are not in the salary you typed unless you added them.
