Windfall Split

A lump of money split by percents you choose.

How this number is made

A windfall split is a choice, not a formula from economics. This page applies the percents you type and shows what is left unassigned if they do not add to 100. Tax on the windfall should be removed before you split it.

  1. Subtract the tax you will owe before you type the amount, if the windfall is taxable.
  2. The three percents are yours. They do not have to sum to 100.

Formula

Each pile = amount × its percent. Unassigned = amount minus the three piles.

Worked example

With the figures already in the form, not assigned is $0.

Questions

What split is responsible?

One you can explain. High-interest debt usually comes before a vacation. This page will not moralize past showing the dollars.

What if the percents exceed 100?

The unassigned line goes negative. You have promised the money twice.
