How this number is made
This is the energy cost of the same miles, not the cost of owning either car. Purchase price, insurance, and repairs are elsewhere. Electricity at home and electricity on a road trip are not the same price. Type the price you actually pay.
- Kilowatt-hours per mile is on the window sticker or your own meter. 0.30 is a filled-in example, not your car.
- A public charger that bills by the minute is not this page.
Formula
Gasoline = miles ÷ mpg × price. Electric = miles × kWh per mile × price per kWh.
Worked example
With the figures already in the form, gasoline costs this much more is $881.
Questions
Which is cheaper to own?
This page cannot say. It is the energy line only.
What about charging losses?
If the car uses 0.30 kWh per mile at the wheel and the wall supplies more, type the wall figure.
