Rent Proration

Rent for a partial month, using the days you choose.

How this number is made

Prorated rent is the monthly rent times the days you occupy, divided by the day-count the lease uses. Some leases use 30 days. Some use the actual days in the month. Type the one your lease uses.

  1. Days you owe are the days from move-in through the end of the period, if that is the deal.
  2. Basis is 30, or 28, 29, or 31, matching the lease.

Formula

Prorated rent = monthly rent × days owed ÷ days in the basis.

Worked example

With the figures already in the form, rent for those days is $800.00.

Questions

Which day count is fair?

The one written down. A 31-day month divided by 30 charges a little more per day. Agree before you pay.

Is the deposit prorated?

No. A deposit is not rent for those days.
